Her Story

Meet Amanda Moreno, the 2024 recipient of the Annual Academic Excellence Scholarship/ Beca Anual de Excelencia Académica. Thriving in the METAS program and proudly serving as a mentee, Amanda embodies perseverance. Despite facing daunting challenges – commuting 100 miles daily, overcoming life challenges, and navigating independence at 16 – Amanda remained resolute in her pursuit of education. Her commitment to her studies, reflected in her 3.9 GPA, is truly commendable. Now, as she embarks on her journey at UCONN, this scholarship fuels her aspirations to graduate with her bachelor’s degree ahead of schedule and pursue her dream of becoming a medical doctor.  Amanda’s dedication, resilience, and profound patience serve as an inspiration to us all.
