HERSTORY

Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc. was founded on December 1, 1987 at Binghamton University in Binghamton, New York, by four trailblazing Latinas.

Our Founding Mothers, Cynthia Santiago, Adriana Zamora, Carmen Ibeth Garcia-Quiñones, and Carol Elizabeth Torres, sought to create an organization that would not only serve as a voice for women in an academic setting, but would also provide sincere sisterhood and unconditional support. This would be accomplished while actively promoting academic achievement, service to the community, and cultural enrichment, the leading goals of our sorority.

MISSION & VISION

MISSION & VISION STATEMENT

Only Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc. can authentically provide an everlasting sisterhood and an empowering sense of pride to our diverse members by intentionally contributing tools to distinguish ourselves.

We pride ourselves as an organization of diverse collegiate and professional women dedicated to uplifting traditionally marginalized groups, specifically Latinx people and women. Since 1987, the Hermandad has been an outlet for professional development and personal growth to both its members and serving constituents. The sorority’s impact can be seen in the outstanding accomplishments of our Hermanas, the young women being mentored enrolled in our LADYS and PEARLS Programs, and through the lives of people touched by our many initiatives—proof that women of color can make a difference.
